In May 2010, an international flotilla of six unarmed civilian vessels, carrying citizens from dozens of countries (including the US), defied Israel's complete naval blockade to deliver much needed construction materials and humanitarian aid to Gaza. Under the cover of darkness, the most powerful military force in the Middle East dispatched heavily armed commandos via speedboats and helicopters to seize the Mavi Marmara, resulting in the tragic deaths of nine activists. "The Truth: LOST AT SEA" presents authentic footage and narration by a survivor to reveal the factual sequence of events, shedding light on how traditional and online media platforms manipulated and vilified human rights advocates who dedicated themselves to raising awareness about the plight of Palestinians in Gaza. Using children’s donations collected via “little blue boxes,” the Jewish National Fund has planted more than 250 million trees in Israel/Palestine. Ostensibly to “make the desert bloom,” the planting has radically altered the land’s biodiversity. My Tree follows filmmaker Jason Sherman’s journey to find the tree planted in his name on the occasion of his bar mitzvah. When he discovers that “his” tree is in a forest covering up a Palestinian village destroyed in 1967 – one of many forests hiding scores of destroyed villages – he seeks to learn the motivations behind JNF’s tree-planting enterprise and to understand his own culpability.

This event is intended to introduce the Defund Racism campaign, which targets pro-Israeli organizations disguised as 501c(3) charities that fund Israeli settlements using tax-deductible donations from the United States. These organizations are therefore complicit in the ethnic cleansing of Palestinians from places like Sheikh Jarrah, Silwan, South Hebron Hills and many other places in Palestine. There are already groups of activists working on Defund Racism campaigns in NY, FL, and PA exposing this racist funding of Israeli settlements.
