Mubarak Awad is a lifelong activist for freedom in Palestine and around the world. He was instrumental in the adoption of nonviolent resistance strategies and tactics during the first Intifada, and that legacy continues to this day. He is the founder of Nonviolence International, an organization aimed at promoting peace education and nonviolent action in dealing with political and social issues. He also founded the Ohio Youth Advocate program for foster children, which became a national organization. Dr. Awad has also been an adjunct professor at the American University in Washington, DC since 1989 at the School of International Studies. He focuses on promoting peace dialogue and transforming post-conflict societies, as well as teaching graduate courses on the methods and theory of nonviolence.
